Yankee Magazine Travel Guide to New England

Plum Island Grille Receives Prestigious Editor's Choice Honor

Newbury, MA — April 14, 2005
Plum Island Grille (www.plumislandgrille.com) today announced it was named an Editor's Choice in the 2005 edition of the Yankee Magazine Travel Guide to New England. YANKEE's Editor's Choice selections highlight notable destinations no traveler will want to miss.

"We are thrilled to inform our readers of the Plum Island Grille and encourage them to experience its unique flair, said Micheal Carlton, editor of the YANKEE Magazine and the Travel Guide. "The food at this lovely little dining room on the inland edge of the state's largest barrier island is so good that you might just forget to notice the sunset over the salt marsh outside. Of course, seafood dominates the menu, from mussels simmered in Thai red curry and a wine-laced Manhattan-style seafood chowder to a handful of daily grilled fish selections served up with mango-lime salsa, citrus-saffron aioli, or kalamata olive Tapenade. Chicken, pan-roasted duck, New Zealand beef filet, and vegetarian options are given equally scrupulous attention, and the house-made desserts are worth leaving room for-especially the double-chocolate mousse and the fresh fruit crisps served piping hot in their own ramekins."

Each year YANKEE Magazine's editors and network of seasoned travel writers scour New England to find the regions' noteworthy dining and lodging establishments, attractions, shops and scenic areas. These memorable destinations receive the prestigious and trusted Yankee Magazine Travel Guide to New England Editor's Choice endorsement.

"Went to this rustic beachside restaurant outside of Newburyport and had one of the best meals in a very long time. The menu is limited but the selections are well prepared and all of the ingredients are very fresh. Very deceiving from the outside, but the big hint of how good it is was the assortment of luxury cars from all over NE out front. The kitchen is "open concept" and the counter area seats 7 for a bird's eye view of the cooking process. They have a respectable wine list (mostly under $ 40.00 per bottle) and their menu, though limited, ranged from fresh fish specials to rack of lamb, steaks, smoked salmon, and an outstanding duck. We had the smoked salmon appetizer which came with garlic toast points (actually not points since they were 1-1/2" thick pieces of homemade bread) and a wonderfully sweet caramelized onion relish. We also sampled the white truffle oil infused celery soup which was creamy and light. For dinner we had the filet mignon, the duck and the rack of lamb, which were all presented on a bed of sweet potato puree and julienned fresh veggies. Melt in your mouth, and forget about using a knife !!! I don't know if they offered desserts since we were so full after dinner. They do have a separate annex with a semi-outdoor deck/bar and music. The smell of the night air off the marsh and the breeze that came through made for a great evening. I'd go soon (they're open limited hours till the summer) because this place will be packed all summer long!!"

Response to above message: "We love it there! Our friends who live in NBPT took my husband and I there for lunch one day in the summer - we were hooked. We sat in the outdoor area and enjoyed feeling the sand between our toes sipping wine and eating an enjoyable lunch. The food is on the upscale side and not for limited tastes - the atmosphere is fun and laid back. I think many people avoid it or overlook it as isn't chi-chi from the outside. Only an artistic soul would venture in! (The exterior reminds me of the old Moors restaurant in P-Town on the outside.) So glad you enjoyed your experience - please try it in the summer!"
